Explore Drake’s magnificent mansion in Toronto – a marvel of old-world craftsmanship made of limestone

Gaudy McMansions in the ‘burbs? Drake Aubrey Graham’s house in Toronto is one of a kind. The underground basketball court in Drake’s 50,000-square-foot mansion is the size of an NBA court and has a 21-square-foot pyramidal roof.

Ferris Rafauli, a Canadian architect and interior designer, created Drake Manor. It is a work of old-world art made of limestone, bronze, exotic woods, and other fine materials. The huge farm was planned and built in a methodical way. There are no Scarface pictures around.

To make the Embassy feel more modern, the Beaux-Arts design has been shrunk down and simplified. The building is a castle made of limestone from the 1800s. In Ontario, Rafauli runs a high-end design and build company. He says the outside shapes are simpler and the lines are straighter. It says, “No stucco, paint, or fake gold.” That’s not what Drake or I want.

Drake’s favorite room is the master bedroom suite, which is 3,200 square feet and has 1,100 square feet of balconies. “I unwind in my bedroom at night and get ready for the day in the morning,” he says. The shower, bed, and closet all give you places to go and think or float. The closet lets you talk to yourself while getting dressed.

God is in every little thing. Rafauli’s brand-new Hastens Grand Vividus bed and base are one-ton heavy and cost more than many people’s houses. There is a bar with whiskey and champagne next to the old mirror and channel-tufted leather on the headboard. There is an Alexander McQueen hummingbird tapestry from The Rug Company and mother-of-pearl nightstands on the carpeting.
