Manchester City defeated Everton 3-1 on Wednesday, with goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, and Bernardo Silva all coming in the second half.
The Cityzens will be glad to have added three points to the League table for their penultimate encounter of 2023, which ended in win despite going into halftime a goal behind.
City had won the FIFA Club World Cup just a few days before, defeating Fluminense 4-0. Phil Foden, one of the goal scorers in that game and their most recent against Everton, spoke with the Manchester City official website.
“I thought we played well in the first half; it appeared to be a repeat of the previous games.” We must believe in ourselves since we are a top team; we did not earn this gold badge by accident.”
“In the second half, wow, I think we blew them away with how we played.”
“We needed that goal (1-1, Phil Foden), and then we blew them away and played fantastic football, so I’m happy.” “I’m very pleased with the outcome.”
After speaking about the team’s well-earned triumph, Foden went on to mention one of his colleagues and one of the scorers against Everton, Bernardo Silva: “He’s a tremendous footballer, one of the best I’ve ever seen.” He’s not the biggest or strongest, but the way he uses his head in the game is something I aim to emulate.”
“We’ve got some big names coming back: Erling (Haaland), Jeremy (Doku), and Kevin (De Bruyne).” When they return, maybe it will strengthen the team. We need them right now because we’re a little short; I’m looking forward to when they return.”
Manchester City have one game left before the coming of 2024, which is against Sheffield United on Saturday, September 30th, at 15:00 (UK).
