After moving from Cagliari, Barella has flourished enormously, winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, Italian Super Cup, and qualifying for the Champions League final the previous year. Having played in 24 games across all competitions this season, he has established himself as a vital member of Simone Inzaghi’s team.

The Reds are reportedly back in the running to sign the Italy international midfielder after failing to sign him in prior transfer windows, according to L’Interista. Barella might find a home with Chelsea or Newcastle in addition to Liverpool, who are both interested in signing the midfield player.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a huge fan of Barella and has been pressuring the team to get a deal done for him, according to a May report.

According to reports, the Nerazzuri and Barella are negotiating to extend their contract, which is set to expire in June 2026. While Inter is not in a hurry to extend Barella’s contract, they run the risk of losing him if a high bid is made for the player, who transfermarkt values at €75 million (£65 million).

Will Liverpool’s long-term ambition come true?

Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, Liverpool’s main midfield targets, chose to join Chelsea at the close of the transfer window, causing a huge loss for the club.

In spite of this, Liverpool’s midfield has emerged as the Premier League’s main attraction. After reintegrating Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister into their midfield, the Reds are now atop the Premier League.

Liverpool will have more firepower with the addition of a player similar to Barella, and Klopp will be able to use the player he has been hankering for in previous transfer windows.

But in the January transfer window, the top priority has to be acquiring a new central defender. With Joel Matip sidelined due to injury, Klopp needs another elite player. The Reds may also search for a new left-back.
