Liverpool battle PL rivals to sign £65m player, Klopp really likes him

According to L’Interista, Liverpool are preparing to rekindle their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Liverpool transfer update: Midfield still the priority, Barella linked again and could the Saudis nab Salah?

Barella has come a long way since arriving from Cagliari, winning the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, the Italian Super Cup, and reaching the Champions League final last season. This season, he has emerged as a crucial player for Simone Inzaghi’s side, appearing in 24 appearances across all competitions.

After failing to sign the Italy international in previous transfer windows, L’Interista says that The Reds are once again interested in signing him. Along with Liverpool, other prospective suitors for Barella include Chelsea and Newcastle, both of which are interested in signing the midfielder.

Back in May, it was claimed that Jurgen Klopp is a great fan of the player and was pressuring the club to sign him.

The Nerazzuri are said to be in contract renewal talks with Barella, whose contract expires in June 2026. Although the Italian club has no plans to extend his contract, Inter risk losing him if a large sum is given for Barella, who is valued at €75 million (£65 million) by transfermarkt.

Will Liverpool’s long-term wish be granted?

In a dramatic finale to the transfer window, Liverpool missed out on major midfield targets Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both chose to join Chelsea.

Despite this, Liverpool’s midfield has emerged as a key player in the Premier League. The Reds are now in first place in the Premier League after reintegrating Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alex Mac Allister into their midfield.

Adding a player in the mold of Barella will give Liverpool greater firepower and give Klopp the opportunity to use the player he has been eyeing in previous transfer windows.

However, the priority in the January transfer window must be to find a new central defender. Joel Matip is sidelined with an injury, and Klopp requires another great player. The Reds could also hunt for a new left-back.
