‘He’s not available,’ says Erik ten Hag of Manchester United’s striker, who is ‘unwell’ for the game against Nottingham Forest

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Anthony Martial is ill and will miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

The Frenchman previously appeared for United in the 3-0 league defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford. He has missed four games since then due to illness.

Martial has not to report for squad training, and Ten Hag acknowledged that he is ‘unwell’ and ‘not available’ to face Forest at City Ground.

“Yeah, so he’s sick,” he explained. He is unavailable.”

In January, Martial might be on his way out

The £36 million signing has been linked with a move away from United, which might happen in January. The club has opted not to extend his contract, which expires in June.

United are looking for a new striker before the end of the season. Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart is one of the club’s top transfer targets, and he could be available for as little as £15 million.

The Guinean sensation has been in top form, scoring 19 goals in 16 games. 16 of those came in the Bundesliga, where Stuttgart presently sits third.

Guirassy is thought to be tickled by United’s interest as the new year approaches. Meanwhile, Inter Milan and a number of Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in signing Martial.

This winter, the Red Devils hope to recuperate the majority of the money spent on Guirassy. The 27-year-old would undoubtedly help the club’s chances of finishing in the top four.

In addition to Martial, club graduate Alvaro Fernandez could be offloaded. He could be recalled from his loan spell at Granada, with Benfica willing to sign him for £6 million.
