Palmer scored a brace to help Chelsea secure victory despite late scare at Luton

Chelsea held off a late Luton Town comeback to win 3-2 at Kenilworth Road today, with Cole Palmer scoring twice either side of a superb Noni Madueke strike.

The Blues had lost their last four Premier League away games, but they looked likely to take all three points when they were 3-0 up with less than 10 minutes remaining.

Palmer gave the Blues the lead in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Luton defender Issa Kabore with a ferocious angled shot that soared past Thomas Kaminski.

In the 37th minute, Luton were taken off guard as Chelsea left-back Levi Colwill fed Palmer on the break, and his pass found Madueke, who had just enough room to fire high into Kaminski’s net.

Nicolas Jackson returned the favor in the 70th minute, splitting Luton’s defense to feed Palmer, who held his calm to round Kaminski and hold off a swarm of players to slide home.

Former Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley scored what appeared to be a consolation goal for the hosts in the 80th minute, heading in from an Alfie Doughty corner. Elijah Adebayo cut the lead to one goal seven minutes later, but Luton failed to equalize.

Chelsea moved up to 10th place, while Luton remain in the relegation zone in 18th place.
