Alisson Becker has been snubbed by five Sky Sports pundits for an inclusion in the PL Team of the current season

Five Sky Sports pundits have voted Alisson Becker out of the Premier League Team of the Season at the midway point of the season.

The Liverpool goalkeeper has been in excellent form this season, helping Jurgen Klopp’s side to the top of the Premier League table after 19 games played.

Alisson is widely regarded as the best shot-stopper in the division, and many consider him to be the best in the world in his position. His efforts, however, have not persuaded Sky Sports commentators, who each chose not to include the Brazilian in their best Premier League eleven for the current season.

Sue Smith, Clinton Morrison, Michael Dawson, and Paul Merson all chose Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, however Tim Sherwood went with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.

As the discussion about the goalkeeper position began, Alisson’s name was not mentioned once by anyone on the show. Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson said why Vicario received his vote: “I just think he has been magnificent since he came through the door at Spurs.” I’m a little surprised he’s gotten off to such a fast start. He is a sweeper keeper based on the saves he has made. He has been simply amazing in my opinion. That is why he is on my team.”

When asked to respond, Sherwood, the only member who did not support Vicario, justified his choice of Martinez. “As a manager, sitting there on the touchline, I think Vicario has been great,” that’s what he stated. “But I just think Martinez, with his World Cup experience, is a real presence and leader.” He is a player who accepts accountability. If you advise him to play out and he believes it is wrong, he will not do so. On the pitch, he makes his own decisions. He lectures his defense and sets a good example.”

Despite the fact that Alisson did not make the cut, the commentators unanimously agreed on four Liverpool players being in the outstanding lineup. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Mohamed Salah were all named to the starting lineup.
