Atletico Madrid have begun negotiations to capture Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood from rivals Barcelona.
Clubs in Spain are interested in Mason Greenwood.
The forward is on a season-long loan at Getafe in La Liga, where he has impressed.
After being sidelined for 18 months due to domestic assault allegations, United determined Greenwood’s future would be better served elsewhere.
Greenwood has taken some time to regain his fitness since joining Getafe, but his form has been excellent recently.
Greenwood has five goals and four assists in 15 appearances, and Antoine Griezmann recently admitted that Greenwood ‘destroyed’ his Atletico Madrid team.
Greenwood’s progress has led to Barcelona being connected with him, and the club is apparently willing to award him the prized no.10 shirt previously worn by Lionel Messi.
Greenwood is worth roughly £40 million.
According to Marca, Atletico Madrid has jumped ahead of Barcelona in the race to recruit Greenwood due to the Catalans’ terrible financial circumstances.
United are thought to be asking roughly £40 million for Greenwood, who is under contract with the club until at least 2025 with the option of an additional year.
Greenwood’s adaption in Spain has impressed Diego Simeone, according to Marca, and the Spaniards have now begun talks with United about the ‘conditions’ of a transfer.
