When Dean Saunders of talkSPORT learnt that Manchester United are reportedly interested in Timo Werner, he couldn’t believe it.
The Premier League giants have failed to score goals this season, netting only 22 in 20 Premier League games, and the January transfer window could help them turn things around.
Werner has been linked with a move to Manchester United in January.
According to The Athletic, now that the market is open, United has approached RB Leipzig about the potential cost of acquiring Werner.
Despite winning the Champions League, Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his two seasons with Chelsea, the German had only ten goals in 56 appearances.
Werner has only scored two goals in eight games this season after scoring 18 in 54 appearances since returning to Leipzig.
When Breakfast host Jeff Stelling informed Saunders of Werner’s ties to United, it’s easy to assume he was disappointed.
“What about Manchester United?” That’s comparable to cycling expert Sir Dave Brailsford going in and making decisions. “That’s a wind-up, I mean, one after the other.”Will Timo Werner be signed?”
“Well, he had a habit of missing chances, didn’t he?” According to Saunders. At Chelsea, he got one every time, which is not ideal for a striker, but he did.
“His movement is excellent and quick, but he has a habit of missing every time he gets close to the goal.” What do you anticipate from him? You’re searching for goals and assists when you sign a winger-turned-striker, sometimes known as a forward.
“If you’re not doing that, work your tail off, stay with the team, and do something else for us.” He doesn’t make or score many points, so you’ll have to pay him a fortune.”
Saunders was taken aback when he learned of the connections.
For much of his tenure at Chelsea, Werner struggled in front of goal.
United are currently seventh in the Premier League following a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, their ninth league defeat of the season.
Erik ten Hag’s side has already been eliminated from the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, leaving the FA Cup as their sole remaining opportunity to win silverware.
Previous January additions, like as Odion Ighalo and Wout Weghorst, have not gone well for them.

United supporters have also been warned that the January transfer window may be quiet.
