Erling Haaland, a Manchester City striker, has resorted to social media to offer his support for Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho, who is embroiled in a battle with Erik ten Hag.
Sancho, 23, has been left out in the cold at Manchester United this season after being dropped by Ten Hag.
The England international has not played since September after refusing to apologize to the Dutch boss for his training efforts.
After Ten Hag openly called out Sancho in a news conference, the player responded by alleging he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ by the United coach – naming his comments ‘absolutely wrong’.
Sancho has subsequently refused to apologize to Ten Hag, either publicly or individually, and is still barred from first-team activity.
He is now expected to quit the club, with United apparently in discussions with previous club Borussia Dortmund to loan him back.
Haaland was a teammate of Sancho’s at Dortmund and has now taken to social media to show his support for the winger.
He captioned a photo of the pair standing with the German Cup on his Instagram account, “Some baller that.”
Ten Hag stated last month that Sancho may yet return to Old Trafford.
“It is about culture, and every player has to meet certain standards, and it was about that,” Ten Hag stated at a pre-match press conference.
“Whatever happens there, he knows what he must do if he wishes to return, and it is entirely up to him.” He understands what he needs to accomplish; the rest is up to him.
“We’ll see what happens.” We’ll see what happens because it’s an internal matter.”
According to ESPN, United are now in talks with Dortmund about a possible loan deal for Sancho.
The Bundesliga club wants to sign Sancho until the end of the season, but United must continue to pay the majority of his wages, which are said to be more than £300,000 a week.
