Mason Greenwood was one of three Getafe players sent off in a 2-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Tuesday after being accused of disrespecting a referee.

The referee stated in his post-match report that Greenwood abused him with an expletive in English in the 50th minute, which both the British player and the Spanish club refuted.

“He doesn’t speak Spanish very well, he told me that he was saying something else,” Getafe coach Jose Bordalas remarked after the game.

“He was upset because the referee didn’t call any fouls on him, but he never offended anyone.” It was only a passing remark.”

In his report, referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez also stated that after being sent off, Greenwood made a motion pointing to his head and showing his displeasure with the decision.
