Following a communication with Barcelona, Manchester City is considering signing Girona’s star on a permanent basis in January

According to Catalonian media, Manchester City could try to sign Savio Moreira as early as January. This season, the Brazilian has been one of La Liga’s breakout talents, attracting interest from three of Europe’s top five leagues.

Savio has been one of Girona’s bright spots this season, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists. Savio, 19, joined on loan from City Football Group partner Troyes after a disappointing first season in Europe with the French club and, later, PSV Eindhoven. There were minimal expectations, but he has now become one of Europe’s most carefully watched players, with his dribbling and speed making him difficult to stop.

Barcelona is one of the clubs interested in him, with Sporting Director Deco keen on him. The Blaugrana seek to improve their left side in the summer, and Sport reports that contact between the player’s camp and Deco is still ongoing.

However, a deal appears difficult, with Bundesliga and Premier League clubs eager to pay top dollar for Savio. Girona and the CFG have thus far rejected those proposals, and he will remain in Catalonia for the rest of the season nonetheless.

Manchester City, on the other hand, is considering signing him on a permanent basis. Savio, eager to ensure his future, might join City in the near future, possibly as early as January.

Not only would this effectively end Barcelona’s chances of signing him if City wanted him for their first squad, but it might also put Girona in a difficult predicament. While there has been no mention of him leaving, La Liga rules state that players can only be registered with a club once per season, thus a move and a second loan would be ineffective.
