The Boston Celtics were defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder, 127-123, in a thrilling contest. The game was full of high-level energy and momentum, as well as a lot of talent and a great dynamic from both teams.
The Thunder led by double digits for the second time in the third quarter, and they were able to sustain that lead, leading by as many as 18 to begin the fourth. Boston rallied late to tie the game, and they might have gone to OT if Kristaps Porzingis’ corner three-pointer hadn’t put his foot on the line. Oklahoma City was simply outhustling them in hustle and intensity plays, as well as on the glass.
Porzingis maintained his hot streak with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists on 12-18 shooting with two threes. Jayson Tatum added 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists on 10-21 shooting, and Derrick White added 19 points with five three-pointers.
After the game, Porzingis discussed how this high-intensity playoff clash was beneficial to the Celtics and the new team’s experience. The Thunder, according to the big man, had good control of the game and “sped them up.”
Porzingis emphasized the Celtics’ tenacity as well as the advantage of facing a squad they might face in June.
“Overall, I think our effort was there,” he went on to say. “Even when they made that run, we fought back, and then we made our runs in the fourth and got back into the game.” That’s a great young club, and I don’t think it was a fluke game. They’ve been playing exceptionally well, and they currently lead the Western Conference. Really solid team to compete against, and a great learning experience for us.”
