Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Hannibal Mejbri’s contracts have been extended.
Wan-Bissaka and Mejbri’s contracts have been renewed.
The three were nearing the end of their contracts, but United exercised the one-year option in each of their contracts, tying them all to the club until 2024. The Manchester Evening News reported in October that the contracts were set to be extended.
Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial have not had their contracts extended, and the latter is anticipated to be released in the summer if he is not moved during the January transfer window.
Martial, 28, has only scored 18 goals for United in the last three and a half years, and he has missed the last three weeks due to illness.
Varane, 30, has also been prone to injury throughout his two-and-a-half years with United, and the club does not want him to continue earning around £375,000 per week next season.
The former Real Madrid defender has started four of the previous five games for the Red Devils, but he is now free to strike a pre-contract agreement with an abroad team this month.
Varane has missed seven games this season due to five different injuries and illnesses. In total, he has been forced to miss 38 United games out of a possible 138.
“We are talking with Rapha Varane, with Anthony Martial, and we triggered the options on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal,” Ten Hag said in a statement.
The Dutchman declined to elaborate on his meetings with the French couple, saying, “I think that is an internal discussion between the club and the player.”
