Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed contract extensions for Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Hannibal Mejbri.
Contracts for Wan-Bissaka and Mejbri have been extended.
The three were reaching the conclusion of their contracts when United activated the one-year option in each, committing them all to the club until 2024. The contracts were expected to be extended, according to the Manchester Evening News in October.
Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial’s contracts have not been renewed, and the latter is expected to be released in the summer if he is not transferred during the January transfer window.
Martial, 28, has only scored 18 goals in three and a half years for United, and he has missed the last three weeks due to illness.
Varane, 30, has also been prone to injury throughout his two-and-a-half years with United, and the club does not want him to earn around £375,000 per week next season.
The former Real Madrid defender has started four of the Red Devils’ previous five games, but he is now free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas team this month.
This season, Varane has missed seven games due to five different injuries and illnesses. He has been forced to miss 38 United games out of a possible 138 in total.
“We are talking with Rapha Varane, with Anthony Martial, and we triggered the options on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal,” Ten Hag said in a press release.
The Dutchman declined to elaborate on his meetings with the French couple, saying, “I think that is an internal discussion between the club and the player.”
