Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was forced to point up Jeremy Doku’s lack of questions. In the most recent summer transfer window, the pacy winger joined the team from French club Stade Rennais. Despite some doubts about his ability to compete at Man City’s level, he has been a welcome addition to the club’s front line in the first half of the season.
Doku’s ability to easily overcome defenders one-on-one has introduced a new dimension to City’s offense. This has provided manager Pep with a variety of choices.
INJURY STOPPED THE WINGER’S AMAZING START TO LIFE IN MAN CITY
Doku’s impressive start with Manchester City was cut short due to a muscular issue. He sustained the injury in last month’s 3-3 draw with Tottenham.
During a press conference following Manchester City’s 2-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United, Pep Guardiola was asked for an update on Jeremy Doku’s injury ahead of a crucial period in the ongoing campaign.
“Yeah, nobody asked me about Jeremy, just Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling, Kevin and Erling,” Pep said. “It’ll be shortly. “I believe he’ll be back soon,” Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola added. “They (medical staff) are a little concerned because he’s so explosive, one-on-one, and muscular, but I think he’ll be fine in the coming weeks.” I’m hoping so.”
CITY OF MANCHESTER WILL NOT RUSH DOKU BACK
This weekend, Manchester City will host Huddersfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup third round at the Etihad Stadium. They’ll then go to St James’ Park for a Premier League match against Newcastle.
Manchester City officials may decide not to hurry Doku back for any of the forthcoming matches, preferring to give him more recuperation and bring him up to speed during their warm weather training camp in Abu Dhabi later this month.
