Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged the club to sign Karim Benzema in order to address the team’s goal-scoring issues.
The former France international wants the Red Devils to sign Al-Ittihad striker Karim Benzema because he believes the veteran striker would be a major boost for United’s faltering side. He also reprimanded the team’s management for not providing enough assistance to Rasmus Hojlund in the attacking third, which has resulted in the striker’s goal drought in his Premier League debut season.
“He [Benzema] will shake up the United frontline, and that’s exactly what they need,” Saha explained to BettingOdds.com. He will surely score goals and help the game flow. It’s a fantasy, but Karim is still a very professional guy, and he’s the type of striker Hojlund will learn from.”
“It’s the right club for him [Hojlund], but it’s unfair to put him in charge of the number nine position alone without an experienced player around him,” the coach said. There are talented wingers and offensive midfielders, but being a striker necessitates a distinct attitude. You need someone to show you runs in the box, which I doubt he can do since the Premier League is a difficult league for that. I played alongside [Ruud] Van Nistelrooy and [Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer. “I had the opportunity to study those legends and learn my runs and skills from them.”
Goals have been a major concern for the Premier League heavyweights this season, with only 22 goals scored in 20 games. They are tied with Crystal Palace in terms of goals scored, with only Burnley and Sheffield United scoring fewer than Erik ten Hag’s side. Hojlund, who joined the club in the summer, scored his first league goal against Aston Villa on Christmas Eve.
Ten Hag’s team, who have only won one of their last four Premier League games, will be aiming to get off to a good start in 2024. On January 8, they will play Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup for the first time.
