Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez set for Chivas Guadalajara return ahead of Champions Cup clash

ESPN says that Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, who used to play for the LA Galaxy and for Mexico, is ready to return to Chivas.

Hernandez has decided that going back to Guadalajara is the best choice, even though MLS, Europe, and the Middle East have all made him offers. Chivas can now start talking to the player’s agents while he continues to heal from an ACL injury he got with the LA Galaxy in June.

Hernandez’s first professional season began with Chivas in 2006. He has said that he would like to play for the Liga MX team in the 2024 Clausura season.

Hernandez scored 39 goals in 82 games over four seasons with the LA Galaxy. When his contract ended in November, he was no longer bound by any team. He had scored just one goal in 12 games across all categories in 2023, though, before he got hurt.

Hernandez had a great career in Europe before he moved to the MLS in 2020. He played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United, and Sevilla. But as a part of Chivas’s academy, he first became famous.

Hernandez has scored the most goals for Mexico’s men’s national team, but he hasn’t played for El Tri since 2019. He hasn’t counted out going back to the national team, and he and Diego Cocca, the former coach of Mexico, have talked about the idea.

Chivas is Liga MX’s second-most successful team. They came in fifth place in the 2023 Apertura season and were beaten in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. Chivas recently fired manager Veljko Paunovic and hired Fernando Gago, a midfielder who used to play for Real Madrid and Boca Juniors, as their new boss.

The first leg will take place at Forge on February 7. The second leg, which will decide the winner, will be played at home against Hamiltonians the following week. Fans of Toronto FC don’t need to be told that Chivas beat the Reds on penalties in the 2018 CONCACAF Champions League final to knock them out of the title.
