Manchester United have unofficially contacted Graham Potter in the hopes of replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Graham Potter is now unemployed.
Following the club’s terrible start to the season, the Dutchman is under mounting pressure at the Theatre of Dreams.
United have lost 12 of their 24 matches in all competitions this season, finishing bottom of their Champions League group, losing to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and sitting ninth in the Premier League.
Delays in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment in the club have prevented United from making a decision on Ten Hag’s future.
INEOS’ 25% interest, on the other hand, is anticipated to be certified within the next four to six weeks, and Sir Dave Brailsford is already conducting an audit of the club’s operations.
While selecting a new sporting director and CEO is a priority, Ten Hag’s future at the club is in doubt.
INEOS would love to keep Ten Hag on until the conclusion of the season to see whether United can improve their form as players like Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez return to fitness.
This season, United has lost 12 of 24 games.
However, there is an acknowledgement that recent results cannot be sustained, and ESPN reports that Potter has been ‘informally’ contacted regarding his availability.
Potter has been out of job since Chelsea fired him in April of last year.
The Englishman had only recently left Brighton to replace Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, but he was unable to win over supporters in west London.
Potter, on the other hand, has pleased INEOS with his coaching abilities, and he was approached last summer about being Nice’s new manager.
Potter is thought to be biding his time before moving into management, and the post at Old Trafford would pique his interest if it became available.
