Manchester United has contacted Graham Potter informally in the hopes of replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Graham Potter is no longer working.
The Dutchman is under increasing pressure at the Theatre of Dreams following the club’s disastrous start to the season.
United have lost 12 of their 24 matches this season in all competitions, finishing bottom of their Champions League group, falling to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup, and currently lying ninth in the Premier League.
Due to delays in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership in the club, United has been unable to make a decision on Ten Hag’s future.
Sir Dave Brailsford is already conducting an assessment of the club’s operations, while INEOS’ 25% stake is expected to be certified within the next four to six weeks.
While it is important to find a new sporting director and CEO, Ten Hag’s future at the club is in doubt.
INEOS would prefer to keep Ten Hag on until the end of the season to see whether United can progress as players like Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez return to fitness.
United has lost 12 of its 24 games this season.
There is an acknowledgement, however, that recent results cannot be sustained, and ESPN says that Potter has been contacted ‘informally’ about his availability.
Potter has been unemployed since Chelsea let him go in April of last year.
The Englishman had only recently left Brighton to take over as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement at Stamford Bridge, but he was unable to win over supporters in west London.
Potter, on the other hand, has impressed INEOS with his coaching ability, and he was approached about being Nice’s next manager last summer.
Potter is said to be biding his time before stepping into management, and if the position at Old Trafford became vacant, it would spark his interest.
