Liverpool is about to receive an unexpected transfer offer from Barcelona, with Tottenham close behind if Klopp declines

Barcelona is trying to sign a Liverpool player this month, but Jurgen Klopp’s reluctance to sanction an unusual trade may require a raid on Tottenham to be reconsidered.

Barcelona has had a rough season, trailing arch rivals Real Madrid by seven points in the LaLiga title race. To make matters worse for Barcelona, Girona currently leads the Catalan powerhouse by seven points.

Barcelona’s financial woes are well documented, and their transfer philosophy has evolved from spectacular coups to astute loans and free agent signings.

Xavi has also made extensive use of the club’s youth academy, with players like Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal rising to prominence.

Gavi, another similar talent, had a season-ending ACL injury while playing for Spain in November.

To make up for the absence, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has stated that a loan replacement will be signed in January.

“If we manage to make (financial) fair play work, the idea is to have another midfielder to compensate for the loss of Gavi,” Laporta stated recently.

“It would be a loan until the end of the season, similar to what we did with Edgar Davids years ago.” “I believe we can make room for a couple of agreements we’re working on before the end of the year.”

Davids was a star during his six-month loan from Juventus at the Camp Nou in the second half of the 2003/04 season.

The Dutchman’s tenacity helped Barcelona easily qualify for the Champions League.

According to a recent Mirror report, Barcelona intends to emulate that achievement this month by signing Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago can follow in Davids’ footsteps, but the deal makes little sense for Liverpool

Due to a series of injuries, the veteran Spaniard, 32, has yet to play for the Reds this season. Thiago, on the other hand, is thought to be nearing full training and could be able to play by the end of January.

“Thiago is in a very good moment, but we just have to make sure we don’t use him too early,” Klopp previously said of the midfielder’s progress.

Barcelona is hoping to sign Thiago on a short-term loan, according to the Mirror. Such a deal would be bad to Liverpool for a variety of reasons.

First and foremost, Wataru Endo is now serving with Japan on the field. Dominik Szoboszlai recently had a hamstring injury.

Liverpool is still competing in the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Europa League. As a result, Klopp will be relying heavily on the depth of his squad from now on, and Thiago, if fit, will be expected to play.

Finally, Thiago’s contract will expire at the end of this season. Thiago would be useless to Liverpool if he was loaned away for the rest of the season.

The Mirror adds that Klopp and his team are fiercely opposed to loaning Thiago to his former club Barcelona and will resist any sale.

Tottenham’s backup plan for Barcelona?

If that option is closed, the insider believes Barcelona would resume its pursuit of Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso.

Barcelona has long liked the Argentine, who has only played 456 minutes this season for Tottenham.

Furthermore, with James Maddison on the verge of returning to fitness, Lo Celso’s prospects of seeing further playing time are dwindling.

According to the Mirror, one of the reasons Spurs may be willing to loan Lo Celso out is a lack of European football.

Barcelona attempted to sign Lo Celso over the summer, but Spurs refused to play ball. According to most rumors, Barcelona’s renewed attempt to sign the 27-year-old this month will also fail, but only time will tell.
