Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has stated that four of his players, including Bernardo Silva, are suffering from the same ailment. However, the Sky Blues manager stated that Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, and Erling Haaland could all return from injury in time for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad Stadium later this month.
On Friday, Pep Guardiola provided excellent Manchester City injury news.
Liverpool and Arsenal will have hoped that the important trio of De Bruyne, Doku, and Haaland would be unavailable for as long as possible.
City have been missing talisman De Bruyne since their season opener. The Belgian has been the driving force behind Guardiola’s trophy-laden tenure at the Etihad, and the addition of Haaland’s goals last season only added to his ingenuity.
Meanwhile, Doku has been a huge success on the left flank since joining from Rennes in the summer. The reigning triple winners have been without all three players for several weeks, and while Guardiola is emphasizing that they will not be pushed back into action, a tentative return date of January 31 has been set.
Last season, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland formed a lethal combo.
“They have all spent the last two or three training sessions with us,” he added at his Friday press briefing. “Jeremy is feeling fantastic. Kevin is also present.
“Kevin has been out for a long time, so we have to be patient with his physical condition and give him just the right amount of time.” Erling is slightly superior. [His issue is with] the bone, so we have to be cautious, but he felt okay the next day after the two training sessions he completed.
“They’re all getting better. I’m not sure about Sunday [against Huddersfield] or Newcastle [on January 13], but they’ll be ready for the rest.” Guardiola also stated that John Stones is still not back in training with the first squad and may be out for longer than those on the comeback road.
As the focus shifts to City’s FA Cup third-round clash with Huddersfield the following week, several periphery players may have been hoping for some vital playing experience. Guardiola did, however, clarify that Kalvin Phillips, Scott Carson, Matheus Nunes, and Bernardo were all suffering from illnesses and could miss out.
“Kalvin is ill.” “He has congestion and a fever,” the former Barcelona manager explained. “Unfortunately, we have a few [cases].” Four players are having issues. Rodri’s grandmother died yesterday, and he is currently in Madrid. He will not be present today or tomorrow. Bernardo and Scotty, Kalvin and Matheus Nunes, and many more are sick this time of year.”
City are aiming for back-to-back FA Cup victories after defeating arch rivals Manchester United in the final last year. They face an out-of-form Huddersfield, with Darren Moore’s side coming to the Etihad after two straight defeats.
