‘The body can’t tolerate it,’ says Norway’s coach, explaining why Man City player Erling Haaland was hurt

Stale Solbakken, Norway’s manager, has stated that Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is more prone to injury due to his explosive style of play.

Following his injury, Manchester City attacker Erling Haaland has returned to training.

In the summer of 2022, the Norwegian forward joined last season’s Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League winners City for £52 million from Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund. Haaand lit up English football in his debut season at the Etihad, scoring 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions last season, and he has 19 in 22 this season.

But Haaland’s season has been put on hold as he recovers from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since the Premier League defeat to Aston Villa last month. Now, his national team manager Solbakken has said that keeping Haaland in shape has become a “art.”

The Norway manager has outlined how the City No.9 must be treated with caution to avoid his explosive style completely blowing his body. “It’s art,” Solbakken stated, according to The Mirror. Erling plays with an energetic manner.

“In a normal season, the package he was given and then physically acquired will explode and perform maximum actions on Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday.” He is the type of player that thrives on explosive power. Those who are exposed to it must take extra precautions to protect their bodies. But Erling possesses a god’s body, which means he must take care of it.

“It’s also something I have to consider as a coach.” He has to be a part of what we do when we don’t have the ball, but he can’t do it all the time. It’s too much for the body. “How many times can he explode during a match?”

Haaland is a national hero in Norway, but Solbakken believes his people are unaware that their hometown lad has become a global sensation. Furthermore, Norway’s coach warned that last season’s 52-goal attacker is improving even more.

“I think we in Norway have a bit of a hard time taking on the global status that Erling has,” Solbakken added. The fact that he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year ahead of Max Verstappen puts everything into perspective. But he is really adept at prioritizing what is most important, which is playing on the field.

“You’ve got to be a little cynical.” Things can rapidly go wrong if you don’t prioritize football, your body, and your preparations. But it’s encouraging that he’s much better at the game’s build-up.

“Erling is becoming a better leader by the day.” He grows older and wiser as he obtains more and more experience. He is improving in many areas. And when he approaches 30, his physique may not be as strong, but Erling will play even more deviously and intelligently.”
