According to a former coach, Mainoo was formerly a short and “wiry” player. He is seen here competing for the U18s in 2021.

Mainoo has demonstrated maturity and talent well above his years; in fact, some Old Trafford supporters have asked Ten Hag to start Mainoo on a regular basis.

Kobbie Mainoo was part of the Manchester United side which won the Youth FA Cup in May 2022

After witnessing him put up a strong performance, one United supporter declared, “He’s going straight to the top.”

The adolescent appears capable of managing the physical demands of his position and hasn’t appeared out of place.

His “wiry” appearance has completely vanished thanks to his strict fitness regimen and nutritious diet.

Many, including Cheadle and Steve Vare, FC Gately’s academy chief who has known Mainoo since he was five years old, have been surprised by his transformations over the years.

“I went to the Youth Cup final,” he said to the Manchester Evening News. He’s essentially unrecognizable.

Since he was so small in Cheadle and Gatley, he is now a huge boy.

“At the time, I described him as wiry, really strong, and quick off the mark.”

He was one of those players who could push the ball past an opponent and leap forward with incredible speed.

“He’s a tall boy now, and I thought he played a really good Youth Cup final against Nottingham Forest.”

When I tell my kids that I coached him, they occasionally respond, “Only for a short while.'”

He clearly only had a minor role from Cheadle and Gatley in his growth, and like anything at grassroots, it’s merely a starting point for the kids.

However, Cheadle and Gatley’s entire staff is ecstatic for him, and it’s wonderful to see him succeeding.
