Man United’s reasoning for passing over Timo Werner and allowing Tottenham to win the transfer race

Tottenham have swooped in to sign Timo Werner as a result of Manchester United’s indecision.

The north London club are nearing completion on a deal for the German forward. He will be on loan from RB Leipzig to Spurs until the end of the season, bolstering Ange Postecoglou’s attacking options.

Spurs will have the chance to sign Werner on a permanent basis if the loan deal is successful. Man United was beaten to the deal for the former Chelsea star, with the Red Devils earlier connected with a move for the German.

It has now been revealed why they did not seek to hijack Spurs’ deal. According to Italian media, the Red Devils have not confirmed their interest since they are unsure of the type of forward they want to recruit in January.

Erik ten Hag’s team is anxious for additional offensive alternatives for the rest of the season. Man United have only scored 22 goals in 20 games this season.

The arrival of £72 million Rasmus Hojlund has only scored one Premier League goal this season, whereas previous season’s top scorer Marcus Rashford has only scored three times.

Last month, Ten Hag jumped to the defense of his forwards. “I know Rashford can score goals, [Rasmus] Hojlund can score goals, Antony can score goals, Garnacho can score goals, Bruno [Fernandes] can score goals, Scott McTominay can score goals,” he continued.

Timo Werner in action for RB Leipzig

Tottenham has beaten Manchester United to the acquisition of Timo Werner.

“We have the scoring ability in our squad, as well as from set plays, but we aren’t doing it right now.” They must work together and believe in their ability to succeed.”

With Werner set to join Tottenham, the Red Devils will be forced to focus on other objectives. Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford following an impressive start to the Bundesliga season.

Another striker based in Germany is also an option. Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting of Bayern Munich is reportedly open to a loan transfer to Old Trafford after sliding down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel.

Werner, meanwhile, will be looking to regain his goal-scoring form in North London. During his previous stint in England with Chelsea, the 27-year-old scored 23 goals in 89 games.

Last season, he returned to RB Leipzig and scored 16 goals in his first season back. He has struggled to maintain his great form, scoring only twice this season.
