Amad spent last season on loan with Championship club Sunderland, where he worked under boss Tony Mowbray.

The Ivorian forward scored 10 league goals, helping the Black Cats achieve their ultimate goal of reaching the play-offs.

Ahead of his return to Old Trafford, Amad posted an emotional tribute to Sunderland fans on social media after their season ended in play-off agony with a semi-final defeat to Luton Town.

While the Ivorian’s 2023/24 season was hampered by a knee injury sustained during pre-season, he is again back in contention and came off the bench for a lively cameo during Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 defeat on New Year’s Eve.

The United fan account centredevils published a tweet about Amad’s future at the club.

The post linked to a story predicting Amad to join Birmingham on loan until the end of the season, with the Blues set to select Tony Mowbray as their new manager following Wayne Rooney’s dismissal.

However, Amad himself shut down the rumors, responding directly to the post with the words, “Stop lying mate!”

Manager Erik ten Hag tried to clear up any doubts regarding Amad’s future in an interview with United’s official website ahead of the team’s FA Cup third round clash against Wigan Athletic on Monday.

“Yeah, he’s very ball secure,” he remarked. He may provide a critical action, final passes, and goal scoring.

“And I believe he has some weapons.” That is always what you want to see in offensive guys.”

Amid plaudits for his few outings for United thus far, Amad will now be expecting to make a huge impact at Old Trafford between now and the end of the season – and beyond.
