Game-changer: Jurgen Klopp explains tactical tweak that helped Liverpool to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup

Klopp talked about the change at halftime that helped Liverpool beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, but he said the 2-0 win doesn’t mean much for their chances of winning the Premier League title.

Luis Diaz scored an own goal in extra time at the Emirates, adding to Jakub Kiwior’s late goal. This put the Reds in the hat for Monday’s fourth-round draw.

Klopp changed his 4-2-3-1 formation after the first half, which ended with no goals and Arsenal dominating. He put Harvey Elliott back in center, moved Diaz to the right, and put Darwin Nunez on the left. Cody Gakpo led the line.

The result was a much better and more dangerous performance that led to late goals in north London. Klopp agreed that the home team was better in the first few minutes, but he said that his players’ ability to adjust to the more familiar 4-3-3 formation was a big part of their win.

“The second half was better in every way.” “It was hard to get ready for what Arsenal did the whole game, but especially in the first half,” Klopp said. He said, “Double 10, 4-4-2, two wingers wide, huge threat. We had a few days to get ready for the hardest game with a slightly different team.”

“Pressing at the wrong time in the first half made things hard for the midfield and almost impossible for the defense. We had to defend deeper in the last line and block balls, but that’s football; you have to show desire, passion, and determination.” That’s what the boys did.

“Of course, we also changed a lot of things after that, which caused Arsenal problems. That’s our story.” Even though these little things can’t always make a big difference, I had almost no effect on what they did in the first half. So, we used what we learned and tried to do better. Things got better.

“We made our chances and better defended them, and that’s how it is.” It’s better to play at home, but it’s normal to get antsy when you’re ahead in the first half but don’t score. It doesn’t get much better or doesn’t get better at all. We were getting more and more used to the game.

“We scored an own goal, which wasn’t planned, but we had chances to score earlier but scored late, which is still fine. We all know that winning a cup game is more important than being the better team, and we had a lot more good moments in the second game and deserved to go to the next round.” But it’s clear that we could have lost tonight too.”

Klopp also asked, “Can we learn anything from the race for the title?” No. I still can’t. So if we draw Manchester City in the next round, we might have to play Bournemouth, Chelsea, the FA Cup next year, and then Arsenal again here. It’s very tough.

“I don’t know what to read, and I know this league is crazy tough, but you have to find ways to win. I’ve said it a thousand times: you just have to find one.” It really isn’t as easy as it sounds.

“We don’t have a problem with believing and having faith; we just don’t care about the things you talk about.” The calendar tells us that it is January. It’s cold outside, so all you can do is play and stay warm. That’s what we do.
