Jurgen Klopp names Liverpool pair who were ‘really nice’ in Jarell Quansah’s injury update

Jarell Quansah ‘jarred his back’ in Liverpool’s FA Cup triumph over Arsenal, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The 20-year-old put up another strong display as the Reds won 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to advance to the fourth round of the competition. Quansah was a late substitute for Virgil van Dijk, who was forced to withdraw due to sickness.

Liverpool were also without another center-back, Joel Matip, as well as two left-backs, Andy Roberson and Kostas Tsimikas.

When the game was scoreless in the first half, Quansah went down inadvertently. He needed treatment before he could continue and repel a potent Arsenal front line. That set the stage for Liverpool to win the game, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick prompting Jakub Kiwior to head into his own net before Luis Diaz sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Klopp was pleased with Quansah’s performance, as well as that of the rest of the Liverpool defense. “Top, top,” the Reds manager told reporters. Oh my God, the awful moment was [when] Ibou [Konate] was twice down and then Jarell went down and wrenched his back, twisting it somewhat. Actually, I assumed that was it, and it would have been really difficult early on in the game. It was pretty fantastic [from Konate and Quansah], Joey [Gomez] was good again, and Trent was exceptional. Then you have Ali [Alisson Becker] for moments, which is also beneficial.”
