Chelsea have made the first move in the summer transfer season to capture Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen, agreeing on a €120 million deal with the Serie A club.
Liverpool had been linked with the 25-year-old following a report in October 2023 that the Reds had reached a deal with Osimhen on personal terms.
Valter De Maggio told Televomero, via Sport Witness, that another Premier League club had been included. I am talking about Liverpool.
“There would be frequent contacts, but I recently learnt that agreements had already been signed.
“Let me clarify: the agreements would be between the Reds and the player, and they would not include Napoli. I hope Laurentiis can keep Victor Osimhen at least until June, but we can’t be certain.
Despite serious interest from Liverpool, this turned out to be bogus.
Todd Boehly, 50, has spent more over £1 billion on transfer fees since taking over as owner from Roman Abramovich, and that figure could rise even higher.
The London club is under pressure to meet FFP rules, despite discovering ‘contract gaps’ that might widen if they spend as much as stated.
Chelsea are willing to pay the €120 million release clause in Osimhen’s contract, according to Italian newspaper Il Mattino, via Calcio Napoli.
They aim to recruit the Nigerian striker during the summer transfer window, and one thing is certain: Liverpool will not compete with them on this one.
