Manchester United great Roy Keane has chastised the club’s attacker Rasmus Hojlund after he squandered several quality chances against Wigan in the FA Cup on Monday night, telling him to “stop fooling around.”
Following his recovery from illness, Hojlund returned to Manchester United’s starting lineup in the FA Cup third round against Wigan.
In the first half against the League One club, the Denmark international had several decent scoring opportunities, including heading an Alejandro Garnacho cross against the crossbar from close range.
He also failed to react to Marcus Rashford’s saved shot, shooting wide from six yards out against the hosts.
The 20-year-old lacked confidence in front of goal against Wigan, and Kane was disappointed in him.
“You are overly kind. I would be fuming with him,” Keane told Roberto Martinez on ITV.
“We wanted United to demonstrate some aspects of their game tonight.” We wanted United to show a different side of their game tonight; they carried over their Premier League tendencies, such as squandering opportunities and failing to be clinical. I would like to see that side of United tonight.
“The striker is missing chances; we may say “unlucky” all day, but these are fantastic opportunities. Put the ball in the net and stop messing about.
Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes scored both goals in Manchester United’s 2-0 FA Cup win.
