Manchester United is holding internal discussions about the prospect of signing Dutch forward Donyell Malen during the January transfer window.
Malen is a Dutch forward who plays for Borussia Dortmund. He has five goals this season.
According to Football Transfers, United is interested in Malen and the board is mulling a deal for the striker.
The 24-year-old might be the first of several signings planned by new Manchester United investor INEOS. To avoid violating Financial Fair Play laws, the club is reportedly focusing on making low-cost and loan acquisitions this month.
The German club is hesitant to part with Malen, but United may persuade them after allowing them to keep Jadon Sancho. Both teams might strike a deal on the trade, with Malen and Sancho heading in the opposite direction.
United are aiming to address their goal-scoring issues, as new arrivals Rasmus Hojlund and Antony, as well as established players Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, have struggled this season.
As a result, United has struggled in all competitions this season, failing to reach the top four in the Premier League and being knocked out of the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
It remains to be seen whether Malen is the solution to their concerns. Since joining Dortmund, the youthful attacker’s goal total in Germany hasn’t exactly wowed everyone. In fact, he has not even achieved double digits in the last two campaigns.
As Jadon Sancho’s loan deal expires and Martial is expected to leave at the conclusion of the season, Malen might present Erik ten Hag with a new alternative up front.
