The Red Devils dominated the match against the Latics at the DW Stadium, and Mainoo played an important role with a standout performance in the heart of the park.

The teenager had an early lapse, which contributed to Wigan challenging the goalkeeper, but he gained confidence throughout the game, winning the majority of his battles.

Mainoo won an outstanding 10 duels in 90 minutes and made an incredible eight tackles. He had 86 total touches and completed 90% of his passes.

At the age of 18, the teenager has already established himself as a significant figure from the sixth position, and Casemiro may find it difficult to replace him in the starting lineup.

The Brazilian is back in partial training after recuperating from a hamstring injury, but manager Erik ten Hag has stated that he may not be available for a few more weeks.

This weekend, United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before taking a short winter break. They may face Newport County or Eastleigh in the FA Cup fourth round in late January.

Mainoo should start both games in defensive midfield and has the opportunity to solidify his position ahead of a tough schedule in February.
