Manchester United is engaging internal discussions about potentially signing Dutch forward Donyell Malen during the January transfer window.
Malen, a Dutch attacker, currently plays for Borussia Dortmund. He has scored five goals this season.
According to Football Transfers, United is interested in Malen, and the board is considering a move for the striker.
The 24-year-old might be the first of several signings planned by new Manchester United investor INEOS. To avoid violating Financial Fair Play regulations, the club is apparently focusing on low-cost and loan acquisitions this month.
The German club is unwilling to part with Malen, but United could persuade them after allowing them to keep Jadon Sancho. Both teams might make a deal on the trade, with Malen and Sancho going in different directions.
United hope to fix their goal-scoring issues, as newcomers Rasmus Hojlund and Antony, as well as veteran stars Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, have struggled this season.
As a result, United has struggled in all competitions this season, finishing outside the top four in the Premier League and being eliminated from the Champions League and Carabao Cup.
It remains to be seen if Malen is the answer to their concerns. Since joining Dortmund, the young attacker’s goal tally in Germany has not exactly wowed everyone. In fact, he has not even reached double digits in the last two campaigns.
As Jadon Sancho’s loan expires and Martial is slated to leave at the end of the season, Malen might provide Erik ten Hag with a new option up front.
