Gakpo, 24, is currently enjoying a successful season at Liverpool, which leads the Premier League table with 45 points from 20 games. So far this season, he has eight goals and three assists in 26 appearances, 16 of which have been starts, across all competitions.
Earlier past month, the 21-cap Netherlands international participated in a ‘past or That’ trivia challenge with GOAL. He chose his club and country captain Virgil van Dijk over Sergio Ramos, Mohamed Salah over Luis Suarez, Arjen Robben over Neymar, and Robin van Persie over Wayne Rooney. He also preferred Messi to Maradona in the fun media category.
Messi, 36, has cemented his place as one of the sport’s all-time greats thanks to his electrifying performances and several awards. He has 821 goals and 399 assists in 1047 total appearances for Argentina, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Miami.
In terms of trophies, the left-footed striker has won 44 during the course of his long career. He helped Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 Copa America, as well as 10 La Liga wins and four UEFA Champions League trophies in Barcelona.
Maradona, on the other side, immortalized himself by leading his national team to victory in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. In seven tournament appearances for Argentina, he scored five goals and assisted on another five.
Maradona enjoyed successful seasons at Napoli and Barcelona. He scored 153 goals and provided 94 assists in 315 combined games with the aforementioned teams, winning eight trophies along the way.
