Erik ten Hag is actively pursuing another former player, Brian Brobbey, as he aims to strengthen Manchester United’s attacking options. The team’s forwards have struggled to find the back of the net in the league this season, with Rasmus Hojlund, the £64 million signing, scoring only two goals thus far. Marcus Rashford and Antony, the wingers, have also faced difficulties in front of goal, while Jadon Sancho, the £73 million acquisition, has returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan.
Meanwhile, Brobbey has been in impressive form for Ajax, netting nine goals and providing four assists in the Eredivisie, despite playing for a struggling Ajax side. Ten Hag’s interest in the Dutch international dates back to the summer transfer window, and it appears that the desire to sign him has not waned.
Brobbey, known for his speed, physicality, and goal-scoring prowess, would provide the much-needed firepower that Manchester United’s forward line requires. Ten Hag, having previously given Brobbey his debut at Ajax, is keen on reuniting with the talented forward at Old Trafford.
Although Ten Hag personally reached out to persuade him, Brobbey turned down the opportunity to join Manchester United in 2022. In an interview with Der Telegraaf, the player revealed that Ten Hag informed him about the financial benefits that awaited him at United, including a substantial increase in salary negotiated by his agent. However, Brobbey and his team were determined to remain at Ajax, even prompting his agent, Jose Fortes Rodriguez, to waive a significant portion of the sell-on clause to facilitate the decision.
By pursuing Brobbey, Ten Hag aims to inject more firepower into his squad and provide support for the struggling forwards at Manchester United.
