Alejandro Garnacho has disclosed his new Manchester United squad number, 17, which he chose because of his friendship with his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 19-year-old winger has never disguised his respect for Ronaldo, the former Red Devils great. At one point, there was discussion of the young Argentine receiving the No. 7 jersey that his childhood hero had worn at Old Trafford with distinction.
But Mason Mount, a July signing, now owns that shirt, so Garnacho will have to go elsewhere. Since making his professional debut with United, he has worn No. 49, but his brother hinted at a potential move by sharing a photo of Ronaldo playing for Portugal while donning No. 17.
It is officially official that Garnacho will wear that shirt in 2023–2024. Previously, players like Andy Cole, Fred, and Nani have worn United’s No. 17.
Garnacho, who has made 38 competitive appearances for United and scored five goals, will be vying for playing time this season in wide attacking berths with players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony.
