Kylian Mbappé’s Late Penalty Seals Victory for PSG as They Extend Lead in Ligue 1. Paris Saint-Germain, the current leader of the French league, secured a 2-0 victory against Nantes with a late penalty goal from substitute Kylian Mbappé. The win extended PSG’s lead to 14 points over second-placed Nice.
Mbappé confidently converted the spot kιck in the 78th minute after being fouled, calmly placing the ball to the right of goalkeeper Rémy Descamps. In a moment of celebration, he pointed at a pitchside camera, smiled, and clenched his fist. The goal took Mbappé’s league-leading tally to 21 for the season and brought his overall goal count to 32 in 31 games. After the final whistle, he took off his jersey and gifted it to PSG’s traveling fans.
Coach Luis Enrique had initially placed Mbappé on the bench, possibly as a result of the forward’s recent sоre left ankle and his absence from the previous weekend’s match against Lille. However, Mbappé was brought on in the 61st minute, shortly after Lucas Hernández scored with a deflected shot over Descamps.
During a tightly contested first half, Nantes had their opportunities with left winger Bradley Barcola forcing a save from Descamps. Nantes also had a goal disallowed for offside from defender Nicolas Pallois. In the second half, Pallois tested PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a dipping shot, and Mostafa Mohamed created another chance that required a save.
In another match, Lille’s Canada striker Jonathan David showcased his scoring prowess with a hat trιck in a 3-0 victory over Le Havre, propelling Lille to third place in the league standings. David has been in excellent form, scoring six goals in the past three home games and reaching a total of 11 league goals for the season, placing him second in the scoring charts behind Mbappé.
