Real Madrid argues that referee Gil Manzano’s decision to blow the full-time whistle as Brahim Diaz was making a cross is unprecedented.
“An unprecedented refereeing decision by Gil Manzano prevented Real Madrid’s victory against Valencia at Mestalla,” Real Madrid claimed in a statement released on their website.
“With the score at 2-2 and the last play of the game, Brahim [Diaz] crossed into the area, and Bellingham finished with a header to make it 2-3.”
“But the referee overturned the goal by signaling the end of the contest after the Malaga native’s [Diaz] ball went through the air. The league leaders deserved three points, but only managed one in a 2-0 loss.
“Two goals from Vini[cius] Jr tied the duel, finally resolved with the decision of Gil Manzano.”
Aside from making such a disgusting decision, the referee also sent Bellingham a red card for daring to complain.
Los Blancos are anticipated to fight the ruling, or they risk losing Bellingham for the next three games.
Hugo Duro admitted that the referee should have counted Real Madrid’s last-second score
“I understand Real Madrid,” Valencia striker Hugo Duro told reporters after the Whites’ last-second goal was disallowed.
“I don’t understand why it took so long for the referee to whistle,” he said.
Jesus Gil Manzano appeared to intend to blow the final whistle before Brahim Diaz sent a cross into the box, but for some reason changed his mind and did so precisely when the attacking midfielder launched it. That seemed suspicious.
While most Valencia players pretended nothing happened, it’s encouraging to see at least one of them accept the referee’s error. Hugo Duro was with Real Madrid Castilla from 2020 to 2021 before joining Valencia.
