Now, let’s talk about the shoe; while I was inspired by Kobe’s shoe line, my first thought was…this isn’t a good appearance. The Nike swoosh is quite enormous, but unlike the Zoom Freak 1s, which were on the heel, this particular one is smack in the middle of the outside foot. After more consideration, I no longer mind the shoe, but the Freak 1s remain far superior. The main issue is the black leather with his number 34; it’s an awful look, and if you remove it, this shoe looks fantastic.
Overall, the Zoom Freak 2s don’t appear to be any better than the 1s. Oddly enough, this shoe may benefit from the release of versions with more modest colours and patterns, as opposed to the Freak 1s, where the black and white shoes were lacklustre but the multicoloured made them a must-have. The Freak 2s appear to be another good basketball shoe for pickup games, with a higher ankle cut and probable lightweight construction. For those of us who will wear it solely for fashion, it will be more difficult to select an outfit that will accentuate the shoe despite the leather. Overall, my first impression of the Zoom Freak 2 is a 6/10 and a poor follow-up to a successful debut shoe; obviously, if someone wants to give me these shoes, I will not refuse.
