Mason Mount Likely to Join #MUFC Squad for FA Cup Game Against Liverpool

Since his move from Chelsea to Manchester United last summer, Mason Mount has encountered challenges with his performance and physical condition. Before joining Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal discussed Mason Mount’s future.

Reports emerged last summer suggesting that Liverpool and Arsenal expressed interest in Mount while his situation at Chelsea was uncertain. However, Arsenal pursued Kai Havertz instead, as Mount reportedly favored a move to Manchester United.

In June last year, Havertz joined Arsenal in a deal worth £60 million, with an additional £5 million in add-ons. Shortly after, Mount joined Manchester United in a £60 million transfer. His contract with Chelsea was set to expire the following summer, meaning he could have left the club on a free transfer if he hadn’t been sold the previous year.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea initially discussed Mount’s availability in April of the same year. However, Romano emphasized that Manchester United was always the most likely destination for the player.

Romano stated on CaughtOffside: “There was also an interesting United story involving Mason Mount, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta allegedly informing close associates that the Gunners were very close to signing Mount from Chelsea.

“I understand that there were contacts with both Arsenal and Liverpool while Mount’s situation at Chelsea was uncertain. However, this occurred not during the summer but around April when clubs began inquiring about the conditions of a potential Mount deal. That’s it, but Manchester United was always the player’s priority.”

Mount has faced difficulties throughout the season due to injuries at Manchester United. The 25-year-old has only made 12 appearances in all competitions thus far and has registered just one assist.

On Sunday, Liverpool will face Manchester United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup quarter-final.
