“Advancing after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Liverpool, Manchester United (MU) will only have to face Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-finals, while their rival, Manchester City, will have a ‘clash’ with Chelsea.
MU secured a nail-biting 4-3 win over Liverpool after a tense back-and-forth battle throughout the 120 minutes in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Amad Diallo emerged as the hero with a goal in the 120+1 minute, bringing complete joy to the Red Devils’ fans.
At Old Trafford, MU had a favorable start, opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a close-range shot from Scott McTominay. Scott McTominay’s goal made the match more exciting, with both sides creating numerous dangerous opportunities towards each other’s goals, but the players couldn’t convert them successfully.
However, just when everyone thought the first 45 minutes would favor the Red Devils, the home team’s net was rattled consecutively. In the 44th minute, Mac Allister’s shot deflected off Mainoo’s leg, causing Onana to fail to react and equalizing the score at 1-1. In the 45+2 minute, Onana managed to save Nunez’s shot, but Salah was quick to score from the rebound, giving The Kop a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Liverpool created more chances, but their strikers couldn’t find the back of the net against goalkeeper Onana.
Creating several dangerous situations but failing to score, Liverpool paid the price when Antony comfortably controlled the ball inside the penalty box before turning and shooting with his right foot into the far corner, equalizing the score at 2-2. Both teams had further opportunities but couldn’t succeed, leading to a decisive outcome in the 30-minute extra time.
The extra time continued to be thrilling. Liverpool took a 3-2 lead in the 105th minute with a goal from Harvey Elliott. However, in the 112th minute, Nunez made a mistake with a misplaced pass in their own half, allowing McTominay to assist Rashford in equalizing the score at 3-3.
Not stopping there, in the 120+1 minute, Diallo shone with a goal-scoring shot, helping MU secure a crazy 4-3 victory over Liverpool and advance to the FA Cup semi-finals. This is also the 32nd time in MU’s history that they have reached the FA Cup semi-finals.
Manchester City’s “clash” with Chelsea in the semi-finals
After overcoming The Kop to advance, luck continued to smile upon the troops of manager Erik ten Hag as they only have to face the underdog, Coventry City, in the semi-finals.
Coventry City is currently playing in the Championship and hasn’t shown much strength, only sitting in 8th place in that league. This will be a great opportunity for the team at Old Trafford to continue their journey towards the final and aim for the championship.
The FA Cup is the only arena in which MU can win a title this season, after being eliminated from the Champions League and no longer having a chance to compete in the Premier League.
However, the Red Devils cannot be complacent as Coventry City still poses a potential surprise, just as they did against Wolves in the previous quarter-finals at Molineux Stadium.
The remaining FA Cup semi-final is the “clash” between the reigning champions Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Sky Blues secured a place in the semi-finals with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Etihad Stadium, thanks to a brace from Bernardo Silva. This victory helps Pep Guardiola’s squad continue their journey towards the goal of achieving the “treble” this season, with two other important competitions ahead of them, the Premier League and the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had to go through a very tough match to defeat Leicester City 4-2 in extra time.
The Blues had a perfect start, leading 2-0 in the first half thanks to goals from Marc Cucurella and Cole Palmer. However, they quickly conceded two goals to make it 2-2 at the beginning of the second half, with an own goal from Axel Disasi and a goal from Stephy Mavididi.
To allow the opponent to equalize, Chelsea created significant pressure and even played with an advantage from the 73rd minute, but they could only achieve the desired result in extra time.
Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke, two substitutes, took turns to shine with goals in the 90+2 and 90+6 minutes, respectively, to help Chelsea win 4-2 overall.
According to the schedule, the first semi-final between Coventry City and MU will take place on April 20th, while the second semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester City will be held one day later. Both semi-final matches will be played at WembleyStadium in London. The winners of the two semi-final matches will progress to the FA Cup final, which is scheduled to take place on May 18th at Wembley Stadium.
The FA Cup is one of English football’s most prestigious domestic cup competitions, and winning it would be a significant achievement for any team. Both Manchester United and Manchester City will be eager to secure a spot in the final and have a chance to lift the trophy. Similarly, Chelsea and Coventry City will be determined to cause upsets and advance to the final themselves.
It promises to be an exciting and highly anticipated semi-final stage of the FA Cup, with fans eagerly awaiting the outcome of these matches.”
