Ratcliffe dismisses the notion of Manchester United splurging on a few exceptional players like Jude Bellingham or Kylian Mbappé. As the new overseer of United’s footballing operations, Ratcliffe aims to restore the club to its former glory but believes spending heavily on marquee signings is not the path to success.
During an appearance on the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast, Ratcliffe stated that the focus should be on assembling the right management team and ensuring effective recruitment. He preferred to uncover the next generation of talents, such as the upcoming Mbappé, Bellingham, or Roy Keane, as opposed to simply purchasing established stars.
Ratcliffe also praised Arsenal’s patience with Mikel Arteta and jokingly expressed his distaste for Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City as potential Premier League champions. Concerning United’s future, Ratcliffe suggested the possibility of constructing a brand-new, state-of-the-art stadium with a capacity of 90,000 or even 100,000, which could serve as a platform for major competitions in the northern region of England.
Regarding Christian Eriksen’s discontent with his playing time at United, the midfielder conveyed his unhappiness to Erik, the decision-maker of the team, but acknowledged the competition for positions and the overall performance of the team. He expressed his commitment to being available and supportive of the team despite his desire for more playing time.
