Following the passing of his wife Cathy, Sir Alex Ferguson has made the decision to put his £3.5 million home on the market. The legendary former Manchester United manager’s five-bedroom property in Wilmslow, Cheshire boasts a spacious 7,000 square feet and features an elegant open-plan kitchen and a game room where he likely enjoyed some relaxation time surrounded by artwork, oak bookcases, and a snooker table. The house also includes a distinctive ‘Ferguson clan’ tartan carpet adorning the staircase.
Estate agents describe the property as an impressive and deceptively spacious detached home, situated within a private, gated, and secure plot. Sir Alex’s decision to sell the house follows the passing of Lady Cathy Ferguson in October at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband, their three sons, two sisters, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Sir Alex referred to his wife as a “bedrock” in his life.
During his time living in the luxurious residence, there were also moments of controversy. In 2020, Sir Alex faced opposition from a neighboring property regarding a planning proposal to demolish a two-story house and construct a three-story mansion.
He expressed concerns about the removal of trees altering the natural landscape and compromising his privacy. However, despite his objections, the plan was ultimately approved and carried out.
