Kylian Mbappé described football as his “sanctuary” during a difficult period when he had to decide whether to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain or join Real Madrid. Despite being a fan of the Spanish club, Mbappé ultimately made the tough decision to stay at PSG until 2025. He acknowledged that it wasn’t a choice he took lightly, stating, “Football was my refuge.”

Mbappé had been the subject of speculation about his future, but he explained that circumstances changed, leading him to choose to remain in France. He emphasized his emotional connection to his home country and expressed his belief that there are more chapters to write in his story at PSG. The decision comes after a successful season for Mbappé, where he excelled as a goalscorer and an assist provider. While questions may arise about his influence in the project or the captaincy, Mbappé dismissed any notions of seeking additional responsibility, stating that he doesn’t need to be the captain to contribute and set an example on the pitch. 

The announcement of his contract extension disappointed Real Madrid fans, but Mbappé expressed his gratitude for their acceptance and support throughout his career. 

The deal also prompted a response from La Liga, with the league planning to file a complaint against PSG for alleged non-compliance with financial fair play regulations. However, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi shrugged off the criticism, emphasizing the club’s focus on having the best player in the world and expressing his disregard for negative comments.
