France’s captain, Kylian Mbappe, has acknowledged his desire to participate in the Olympics but recognizes that the final decision is not within his control.
Mbappe meets the eligibility criteria for the 2024 Olympics, sparking discussions within French football about his potential involvement. Coach Henry has expressed his keenness to include PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer in the national team for the tournament.
During a press conference, Mbappe expressed optimism about representing his country: “I have always aspired to compete in the Olympics, and my ambition remains unchanged. If I am given the opportunity to play, it would be a dream come true. However, I understand that the decision ultimately rests with one person, and I have yet to receive a definitive answer.”
Mbappe’s participation in the Olympics, which will take place in his home country, may be complicated by his impending transfer to Madrid. While he assured reporters that his future will be resolved before the Euros, Real Madrid may be hesitant to release their star striker so soon after his signing.
At present, Mbappe’s focus is on France. As part of the upcoming international break, the winger will represent Les Bleus in friendly matches against Germany and Chile.
