Harry Maguire has left the England national team camp to undergo further assessment on a newly sustained injury during the friendly match against Brazil. Maguire was substituted in the second half of England’s 0-1 defeat to Brazil and will undergo thorough medical examinations today (March 25th).
Manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that the Manchester United defender will be ruled out of the upcoming match against Belgium. A similar situation applies to wing-back Kyle Walker.
In response, Southgate swiftly promoted two U21 players, goalkeeper James Trafford and Rico Lewis, to train with the senior squad.
Maguire’s latest injury has raised concerns for manager Erik ten Hag, as Manchester United faces a challenging away trip to Brentford this weekend.
Prior to this, Harry Maguire was absent for nearly a month due to a calf issue. In addition, Manchester United is also missing Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Tyrell Malacia due to injuries.
Throughout the season, Maguire has struggled to maintain consistent physical fitness. In the late 2023 Christmas period, he had to miss five matches due to groin pain.
