This season, the Boston Celtics have emerged as the NBA’s best team. Boston leads the league with a 57-15 record, thanks in large part to All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s outstanding performances. While Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Kristaps Porzingis have all had excellent outings, it is Tatum and Brown who have truly stood out.
According to former NBA Coach of the Year and current league commentator Sam Mitchell, the Celtics are poised to challenge for an NBA championship year in and year out thanks to the presence of their two excellent wingmen.
Best forward combination in the league. There are several talented forwards in the NBA. Whether it’s Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, or LeBron James, there are plenty of top players at the position. However, when it comes to dynamic duos, Mitchell believes Tatum and Brown are the league’s best forward combo.
“Boston right now is set up for the next eight to nine years. Because as long as they have Tatum with Brown together, they got a chance to win. Those two guys, they are the best forward combination in the NBA,” Mitchell said on NBA TV.
“I look at like that they’ve earned this. Yes, they’ve earned the right for us to talk about them and fawn all over them. Actually, they have not taken their foot off the gas yet,” he continued.
Following their loss to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals in 2022, the Celtics appear to be improving. With the acquisitions of Holiday and Porzingis, the Celtics’ current roster may be their most skilled yet.
A stark reminder. However, on Monday, the Celtics were reminded of their weakness as the Atlanta Hawks rallied from a 30-point hole to defeat Boston 120-118. The Hawks played without All-Star guard Trae Young but were still able to mount a comeback against the Celtics, who appeared to be on their way to another blowout victory when they led 68-38 late in the first half.
After the game, JT did not mince words when lamenting the setback that ended their nine-game winning streak.
“We the game up, and we know that. We’re all adults and professionals, and we know we didn’t do the things necessary to win. That’s sometimes easier to fix when you know if you do the right things, and play the right way, the way you’re supposed to, you know usually what the outcome is going to be. So take it on the chin and get ready for Thursday,” Tatum said.
Despite all of the praise the Celtics are receiving from experts and commentators, it is evident that they still have certain areas to improve on. Whether this was a glitch in an otherwise great season or a hint of deeper problems, Boston would be well to take a step back and reflect on this horrible loss before their next game.
