In a recent collaboration with Hulu, NBA star Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat joined forces with Joseph Marcell, famous for his role as Geoffrey the butler in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” to promote Hulu + Live TV. The advertisement revolves around the concept of “cutting the cord” and leaving behind outdated activities. The 30-second campaign, produced in partnership with Known and Riverside Entertainment, has already been launched across digital and social platforms and is set to make its broadcast debut ahead of the NBA Playoffs this month.
Butler expressed his interest in partnering with Hulu due to the company’s ability to showcase individuals and their unique interests in what they watch. He mentioned enjoying watching cartoons with his kids and following the tennis performances of Carlos Alcaraz when he’s not playing dominos. Butler also praised Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks for his previous appearances in Hulu commercials. Other notable NBA players, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, Ja Morant, and LaMelo Ball, have also been featured in Hulu campaigns.
Butler explained that his approach to promoting products varies depending on the brand, but he considered the Hulu campaign to be “special.” He felt it accurately represented his personality, describing himself as more old-fashioned and less involved in social media, aligning with his character as “Jimmy Butler’s Butler.” He emphasized the importance of being authentic and having fun during the campaign.
Butler expressed hope that his designer coffee brand, BigFace, and his “emo” alter ego would be featured in future projects. He believes in the popularity of BigFace coffee and his love for the beverage. Last year, BigFace had a mobile pop-up shop during the NBA Finals, and Butler’s “emo” persona made a cameo in Fall Out Boy’s music video. He anticipates that these elements will be incorporated into future endeavors, aiming to create something special once again.
