Real Madrid and Manchester City created fireworks in the Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday, drawing 3-3. Kevin De Bruyne did not play because of illness. But the Red Devil did keep a wonderful keepsake from his journey to Madrid.
In Champions Ball’s recent history, the record holder and the current defending champion have faced off frequently. This usually produced fantastic matches. And Tuesday evening’s opening match was similarly enjoyable.
City took the lead after only a few minutes thanks to a brilliant free kick from Bernardo Silva. Real, on the other hand, took control before halftime thanks to Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo Goes, both of whom scored with deflected balls. However, after the break, it appeared that the English had taken control of the match.
Downer for De Bruyne
Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol created a 2-3 lead with stunning long shots. Real did not give up, however, and managed to draw thanks to Fede Valverde. So everything is still possible next week when we return to Manchester.
At City, they want to rely on Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian playmaker would ordinarily start on Tuesday. However, he began to feel poorly just before the match. According to coach Pep Guardiola, KDB even had to throw up in the locker room.
Respect from Kroos and Modric
The Belgian was spared and remained out for the entire encounter. He did, however, have a pleasant moment just after the last whistle. Luka Modric came to see him directly. The former Ballon d’Or winner spoke briefly with his fellow midfield maestro and even offered him his match shirt. A beautiful gesture, which De Bruyne definitely appreciated. Toni Kroos also stopped by to chat with the Belgian playmaker.
