On this day, eight years ago, LeBron James married his high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson. To commemorate their anniversary and eight years of marriage, the NBA player publicly expressed a heartfelt message to his wife, accompanied by photos from their intimate wedding ceremony.
“We hosted our very own Met Gala eight years ago. Queen, happy anniversary!” he wrote. “Who am I without you in my corner? Completely nobody! Admire you.”
In flashback photos, LeBron was seen wearing a blue velvet jacket, while Savannah looked radiant in a strapless fishtail gown.
It’s not just LeBron who is in a celebratory mood. Savannah also shared a message for her partner, including candid photos of the couple and their family. “Happy Anniversary to my Capricorn-turned-Virgo, best friend, and babe, my eternal partner in terrifying films and my ever-present foot warmer!” she wrote. “After 8 years, it will be everlasting! I love you very much! #ObserveWhatWeDid”
As mentioned before, the couple started dating during their high school years. Since then, they have become parents to three children (Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri) and have remained steadfast throughout LeBron’s meteoric rise to pop culture icon status. Savannah revealed in an interview with ESSENCE years ago that she has been a crucial support system for his success.
“I serve as his support system in all that he needs, if it’s listening to him, or if he says, ‘Hey babe, I’m tired. Can I take a nap?’ ‘Sure, baby.’ I will take care of the kids. It’s a part of my responsibility as his wife and the mother of his children. I have to be there for him because he’s busy,” she said. “I understand that he’s extremely busy, and our kids are at the age now where they get it. Being there for him is a huge part of his success.”
LeBron has also openly expressed his admiration and love for Savannah in interviews and on social media.
“We’ve been down since high school,” he told the Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “I listen to a lot of rap music, and a line that always comes up is ‘You wasn’t with me shooting in the gym.’ She was with me shooting in the gym. I wasn’t with you shooting in the gym, but I was with you shooting in the gym.”
He continued, “Savannah was there when I had nothing. She was there when I wasn’t a household name, and she was there when I couldn’t even afford a McDonald’s meal. You wouldn’t be talking to me right now if it wasn’t for her.”
Despite their humble beginnings, they have come a long way. We present some of our favorite photos of the happy couple (and a few with their children) throughout the years.
